Detroit RiverWalk Brings Change to Mt. Elliott Park

Change is Coming

Mt. Elliott Park is seeing some changes as construction has begun to extend the Detroit RiverWalk through the park and connect it to Gabriel Richard Park (the park directly across from Belle Isle). There is a great view of the Belle Isle Bridge from Mt. Elliott Park, and it's a nice place to watch the river flow by.

RiverWalk Construction

Mayor Dave Bing and other Michigan dignitaries held a press conference recently and made an announcement to kick off the construction project. As you can see by the photo above, work has begun! The park is still open though, so head on down and enjoy the green space and the view of the Detroit River.

Something for the Kids

Some of the things planned for the park according to the DetroitRiverfront.org's press release is "a Great Lakes Schooner theme, water cannons and other water features for children to play with". This will sure to be popular with kids, but a part of me likes the current wide open space in the park. As you can see in the video following this post there is plenty of space. --- Ultimately though, DVD is pro anything free and fun for kids and families, so bring on the changes. And given the fantastic work that the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy has done so far, I'm sure the changes will be great!

What do you think about the plans for the park? Leave a comment and let me know!
